Since many schools have closed due to the coronavirus pandemic, many high school students are going to school online in what is called distance learning. Some of them communicate with their teachers via email or websites, like gClassroom and Schoology. Others participate in online classrooms via video conferencing apps, like Google Hangouts and Zoom. The Catalyst interviewed Maya Zeidan, a senior at Mercy High School, Burlingame, about her experiences going to school online.
The Catalyst (TC): What is a typical day of school like for you?
Maya Zeidan (MZ): A typical day I would say is getting Starbucks in the morning, then I start off with just a study hall. It’s pretty simple. And then, I have like sciences and labs, and those classes [are later in] the day.
TC: How are you coping with social distancing and keeping in touch with your friends?
MZ: I’ve been FaceTiming my friends and Snapchatting them and using a bunch of social media.
TC: What do you think schools should be doing better?
MZ: I would say make teachers more accessible because you know online classes can be tricky sometimes.
