NDB community reflects on the postponement of Aquacades 2020 during the coronavirus pandemic
The Catalyst interviewed Lizzy Weishaar, junior, about what would have been Aquacades.
TC: Friday would have been Aquacades, but it was canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic. What do you have to say about that?
LW: I think it’s really unfortunate that it was canceled especially with how much work I had put into it with a lot of my friends and the junior class council, doing the routines and backdrop. However, I understand the health concerns, and I’m happy that we are putting it off to prevent the virus from spreading to, not just students, but any loved ones.
TC: If we come back to school before the end of the year, do you think Aquacades should be rescheduled or should it be canceled? And, if it’s rescheduled during the summer, would you be willing to come celebrate it then?
LW: If it could be rescheduled, I would really enjoy it and would go, so that all the work that we did, didn’t go to waste. However, I want to make sure that it’s done like when it’s safe, so that we don’t risk the health of any students or their parents or any family members, but if it is possible I would like to go.
TC: People usually look at pictures or videos of last year’s Aquacades to learn what it’s about. One year from now, what do you want people to know about Aquacades?
LW: One thing I want people to know is that it really is just a fun event that lets people get all stressed out and is such a good time because it really bonds people together – sisters – both getting it ready and getting everything together and actually being at the event and cheering with everyone in the stands and enjoying the routines put together by not just your own classmates and, but [by] those other classes.
