NDB community reflects on the postponement of Aquacades 2020 during the coronavirus pandemic
The Catalyst interviewed Isabelle Collins, senior, about what would have been Aquacades.
TC: Friday would have been Aquacades, but it was canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic. What do you have to say about that?
IC: I’m so sad about Aquacades being canceled because this was our last year… I’m sad that, not only that we don’t get to perform again, but I feel like this was a year that we genuinely had a chance, because we’ve never had gotten first – only fourth and third… I think, potentially, we could have won because we had so much energy going into it. It’s so sad that we don’t even have the chance to perform and to show all of our sisterhood because this is the combination of it all.
TC: If we come back to school before the end of the year, do you think Aquacades should be rescheduled or should it be canceled? If it’s rescheduled during the summer, would you be willing to come celebrate it then?
IC: I 100% think that Aquacades should be rescheduled for the summer. It is a pool event, and I think it would be so fun in the middle of the summer to get back together with all my senior friends for one last time and celebrate. We’ve already put in so much hard work, and this would be a really nice way to say good-bye and to prove that, even though this devastating event occurred, we’re still able to keep our spirits up and to keep on with our traditions.
TC: People usually look at pictures or videos of last year’s Aquacades to learn what it’s about. One year from now, what do you want people to know about Aquacades?
IC: I want people to know that our class was strong and that we were fighters because we definitely didn’t have the best situation in the past and our class has been through so much. I feel like, this year especially, we were all ready to come together and just defy the odds. I want the other classes to know that we’re the comeback class.
