NDB community reflects on the postponement of Aquacades 2020 during the coronavirus pandemic
The Catalyst interviewed Lani Lopez, parent of Kaitlyn Lopez, junior, about what would have been Aquacades.
TC: Friday would have been Aquacades, but it was canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic. What do you have to say about that?
LL: Well, it is what it is. We must put the safety of the students first.
TC: If we come back to school before the end of the year, do you think Aquacades should be rescheduled or should it be canceled?
LL: I believe that it should be fully cancelled because of the coronavirus pandemic. I heard that Governor Gavin Newsom said that schools might be cancelled until the fall, so I don’t know how NDB will be able to reschedule this event.
TC: As a parent of the NDB community, do you think this is a major letdown for the students that spent months in preparation for this annual event happening since 1942?
LL: To an extent it is a major letdown, but given the current situation of the coronavirus, it is necessary that Aquacades was cancelled for the safety of the community. We can always resume next year.
