NDB community reflects on the postponement of Aquacades 2020 during the coronavirus pandemic

The Catalyst interviewed Kelly Shackel, junior, about what would have been Aquacades.

TC: Friday would have been Aquacades, but it was canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic.  What do you have to say about that?

KS: It’s so heartbreaking. I feel bad for the younger grades, like the freshmen, who won’t get their first Aquacades experience and all of the students who put so much work into their routines, backdrop, and preparation. It was going to be iconic, and I am sad we did not experience that today.

TC: If we come back to school before the end of the year, do you think Aquacades should be rescheduled or should it be canceled?

KS: At this point, I don’t know. It’s really tough after seeing all of the posts on social media about how people reminiscing about Aquacades because a majority of people know it’s canceled. I am a Junior, so it wouldn’t affect me as much because I have next year to look forward to.

TC: People usually look at pictures or videos of last year’s Aquacades to learn what it’s about.  One year from now, what do you want people to know about Aquacades?

KS: For me, it’s all about the excitement, anticipation, and the fun I have with my classmates and the whole school. The energy and the vibes are insane, and I would want to convey that to every person who wants to know.
