Last night, everyone was really wondering what was going to happen. Then, I got the call, a friend telling me that we had no school until Wednesday. Obviously, everyone was excited to not have school, but we never knew what it was going to lead up to. I nicely slept in until around 10 a.m.-ish and woke up with a couple emails from teachers, but nothing super out of the ordinary: A couple of assignments to keep us on course for when we returned on Thursday. We then took a big trip to the beach to celebrate this time off. It was a nice day and everyone had fun. Later that day, since there was going to be no school on Tuesday, we went out and hung out at a friend’s house. That was the end of that day.

On Tuesday, things started to get a little interesting. I still woke up, did the assignments that had been assigned to me online, and carried on with my day. Today, I woke up a little earlier in order to make attendance in my second-period class. With the big announcement that the Archdiocese of San Francisco was planning to close all 90 of its schools down, NDB being one of them, we began to wonder what was going to happen. Then, the emails started coming in. I was both excited and nervous. I did not know how this was exactly going to work. I did not go out on Tuesday and it was a nice night watching The Bachelor with my mom.

Wednesday was officially the first day of distance learning. It was a lot to take in, at first, and I realized it is harder to really make sure you are turning in the right things and learning the right things. Yes, having no school is nice, but it is difficult to teach yourself certain topics, such as math. I did not really go out today because I just tried to stay on top of a lot my school work and not fall behind, which like I said before, is getting tough. After getting my school work done, I took a trip to the beach to just sit there and look at the view. The beach in Half Moon Bay is my happy place, and I like to go there every so often and think about life.

I am starting to not like this. With multiple school events being canceled, our senior year seems like it is already coming to a rough end. Yes, the time out of school itself is going to be nice, but the workload looks like it will be more than we would actually have being in school because we are essentially teaching ourselves. I also think it will be harder to focus on my school work being in the home setting. Today, I really had to stay home because most of my classes started to do video conferences. I think these work in smaller classes, but not big classes.
