The Catalyst / Julia Roche

In a recent game in this season, Roche is focused when she has the ball.

The Catalyst interviewed senior Julia Roche about her time at NDB playing soccer reflecting on being a senior and how she feels about parting from the team next year.

The Catalyst (TC): How has the NDB soccer season been this year?
Julia Roche (JR):The soccer season this year has been great despite the challenges we faced. [The] COVID [pandemic] could have changed the dynamic of the team, but we didn’t let that happen. We have been practicing hard and playing well which has caused us to get the results we wanted so far.

TC: What was your favorite part of the season?
JR: My favorite part of the season was definlety playing our first game. Usually our season would have started in January, but because of [the] COVID [pandemic] we started a lot later than normal. Playing in our first game made everyone so excited that we were actually going to have a normal season. We had not all played together for over a year and the feeling of stepping on the field as a team again was amazing.

TC: How do you feel about wrapping up your final year on the NDB soccer team as a senior?
JR: Being a senior on the team is a bittersweet feeling. Over the past four years on the team I have made some amazing friends, but I am now realizing that I will be leaving them soon. This team has been such a huge part of my life for so long, so not coming back next year will be a weird feeling. However, I am very excited to come back and watch everything the team accomplishes next year.

TC: Will you continue playing soccer in college?
JR: Going forward I have chosen to focus more of my time on school and my major. I realized that the career path I want to follow requires a lot of dedication and time. However, I am still considering playing for a club team in the area or possibly trying out [for a soccer team] once I am there. I guess it will all depend on what things are like once I am actually in college.
