Preview: The Legend of Sleepy Hollow
The Legend of Sleepy Hollow, is making history as tri-school’s first virtual production. As most aspects of society have faced many adjustments due to COVID-19, so has the annual tri-school fall play.
The play follows Ichabod Crane and the headless horseman, two men in competition for the attention of Katrina van Tassel.
“It is a story filled with ghostly tales, mischief, and even a little bit of magic,” said Sophomore Isabella Hildebrand-Veccia, who is the narrator and an ensemble member of the show.
However, there is a fear that the intended feeling and storyline of the play may not be relayed as effectively as it could be through the traditional theatre setting.
“COVID-19 forced us to make the play entirely virtual, which completely changed the process of putting it on,” Hildebrand-Veccia told the Catalyst.
The cast has been rehearsing through Zoom, while dealing with internet lag and trying to become accustomed to performing without the presence of anyone else.
“I’d say that the hardest part of performing virtually is not being able to feed off the energy of the rest of the cast because we’re not in the same room and we can’t always see each other while we’re performing,” said Hildebrand-Veccia.
A very crucial aspect of theater is the ability to react and respond to the atmosphere that is being created by the other actors.
“We are recording scenes individually which will then be edited together to make a full film of the play, and that film will be broadcast on October 29, 30, and twice on the 31,” She explained.
Each cast member was given the necessary tech equipment, costumes, and props to be able to produce their parts of the film.
An admit one ticket is $10.00 and a household ticket is $20.00. There will be showings on October 29th and 30th at 7:30 pm and on October 31st at 5:00 pm and 7:30 pm. The show runs for one hour and twenty minutes.
Even though COVID-19 has caused many challenges to all aspects of the world, the tri-school community is still finding ways to connect and carry out its annual production. With this innovative and unforgettable event, one can watch from anywhere and still enjoy the excitement of the play and the tri-school community.
